It’s now August. The bugs are at their peak and about to slowly fade away. So why am I dealing with the earwigs from hades?
If you don’t live here or haven’t been back to Michigan in a while you don’t know about epidemic of earwigs. They are the most annoying of small bugs. Read about them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earwig
Disgusting, small, parasitic creatures. I HATE them! And now we’re living with them in huge numbers in the U.P. We never had them until a few years ago and every year there are more.
The only thing I’ve found that truly works is diatomaceous Earth.http://www.ghorganics.com/DiatomaceousEarth.html It’s a mouthful. I know. But this stuff really does the job and it’s not harmful to humans. Such a simple solution (for bedbugs too!) I got mine at Permaguard but you can pick the stuff up at ACE Hardware.
First I took old cheese bottles that have a shaker top and filled them with the DE and sprinkled it all over my window seals, entrances, edges of molding, basically, anywhere there was a crack. After a week I’m finally noticing dead earwigs. If you sat in one spot in the house for long enough you would see maybe 10 earwigs come out at night. Now maybe 1 or 2. It’s a darn good start and I would recommend this to everyone!
